SRAM teams just took out their third stage of the Tour! SRAM RED riders have won every mountain stage, have the polka dot jersey, the white jersey, winning the team overall, and had the yellow jersey. Currectly two of our riders are in the top ten. Not a bad way for SRAM athletes to start their first Tour de France.
Ricco, who finished 6th, promised to help Piepoli win and was unfailing in that. Ultimately both riders assisted their GC contender, Juan Jose Cobo. These guys have gelled as a team after some verbal fireworks at the Giro. Its great to see because they can certainly light it up as the road tips up, something they have been doing for several years.
Editors seem to quite focused on new componentry from Shimano and Campy and rightly so, people are interested in it and its great to see more consumer choices, but RED has been pretty dominant so far.
Anybody else see the guy in his 11-tooth cog because his electronic shifting failed on the climb? That’s gotta be rough. Does Mavic NRS carry AAA batteries now? Okay, that was mean, I respect innovation in all its forms, but SRAM RED is pretty frickin cool.
One more thought, in the latest issue of Road Bike Action I was asked to pick the top three for the Tour as Evans, Frank Schleck, and Cobo…people teased me…check the overall…
Note: We’ve decided not to remove any posts on TheRoadDiaries.com. One of the many unfortunate things about the situation is that we as sponsors can’t erase the fact that we were associated with these guys and that we, like many others, were proud about what we thought were honest performances at the time. Especially at a moment like this, we feel that it’s important to be honest.

Aw yeah!!! Great to see RED doing so well in the Big Show. The SD boys know how to make a race exciting!
